In order to do this technology needs to be enabled. Tools need to be built that make localisation more effective that help the translator or the relating fields that assist translators. Training needs to be provided and developed that increase the African localisation skills level. The status of language policy as it relates to localisation and to the usage of ICTs in local languages needs to be influenced.
We are achieving this by creating a network of African languages localisers who through various projects address these needs. This network and the sub-projects developed by its members are focused on empowering African languages practitioners to be skilled in these areas, forgoing short-term advances to ensure that African expertise is created for future localisation development.
