This is the blog of Walter Leibbrandt, the youngest and latest addition to the Translate.org.za team. I am the author of Spelt and CorpusCatcher (so far) and I love being an open-source supporter and developer.
I love Python.
Here are my aliances in some of the most popular flame wars, so you don't need to ask:
- Distribution: Ubuntu - I switched to Ubuntu (Feisty) after about 5 years using Gentoo. Gentoo is great and it taught me a lot, but now I want ease-of-use, quick package installation and no RPM's.
- Window manager: Gnome - My current window manager of choice, although I have used KDE, Enlightenment, Fluxbox and Blackbox. This may change in a few months and is not something that I really find debatable - you just use what works for you.
- Text Editor/IDE: VIm - I've already spent many, many hours learning VIm and I'm not going to relearn everything for the sake of using Emacs. There's nothing wrong with VIm anyway.
- Browser: Firefox - 'Nuff said.
- Programming language: Python - Did I mention I LOVE Python?
- GUI toolkit: Gtk+ - It just so happens that I've used it the most.
